SEAMLESS CAREER PATHWAY MODEL

The 360º Manufacturing and Applied Engineering Center of Excellence seeks to serve the needs of industry by cultivating a potential future workforce through more flexible educational opportunities and the concept of a Seamless Career Pathway. Through creative collaboration and innovative, hard work, Memorandums of Understanding have been signed to set the Seamless Career Pathway in motion Fall 2007 Semester.

Seamless Career Pathway:

  • Facilitates unique combinations of skills and knowledge
    (Robotics and mechanical design)
  • Industry can tell us which combinations have the most value
  • Incumbent workers can gain new skills and knowledge through smaller blocks of education (certificates for specialization courses)
  • Quick response to industry-identified needs for new credit-based curriculum
(Machine vision and optics added to electronics core)
  • Promotes career planning starting at the certificate level
(Take charge and find your own way
Go as far as your ambition takes you ? Masters level)
  • Evolve to more accessible programs
(70% of credits offered at 4 to 5 institutions
30% of credits offered at 1 institution? increase blended and non-traditional times)
  • Minimum to no loss of credits from technical degree to 4 year degree
(Almost all to 100% technical credits count toward 4 year degree)
  • Possible combination with non-traditional student programs
    (Females, minorities, disabilities, welfare-to-work)

Sodbuster Award

We in industry are amazed at how well the 360° group has done with its Seamless Career Pathway Model. We all have many employees who have begun the first part of their career and educational journey with technical college training. They have gone on to excel and grow in our companies, and have become leaders in civic groups and community organizations. We encourage them, (and will pay for them) to pursue further education, but they usually run into substantial barriers.

The 360° group should get a Sodbuster Award for breaking through. Our employees (your adult learners) will undergo the same rigor in those Seamless Career Pathway classes. They will enrich the classes, and improve our companies. In the end, by reducing the barriers in a sensible way, you will have more individuals enrolled in your programs. It certainly helps us in industry, it helps the colleges, but most importantly - it helps talented individuals achieve their potentials.
